The Social Media Summit in Abuja, organized by Social Media Digest, aimed to educate Nigerian youth on responsible social media usage and promote a thriving writing culture. The event, now in its 4th edition, attracted dignitaries from various sectors who gathered to recognize outstanding essay writers and individuals contributing positively to social media.

The highlight of the summit was the essay writing competition sponsored by Chief Sebastine Tartenger Hon (SAN). Master Isah Kamisu Madachi from Bauchi State claimed the top spot, securing a substantial prize of N250,000. The second position went to 17-year-old Olabisi Juwon from Ondo State, who received a prize of N150,000, while Olowe Doosur Victoria from Benue State clinched the third position with a prize of N100,000.

Jacob AĆ“ndoaseer Wuese, the Convener of the Summit, addressed the press, stating that the event was strategically organized to showcase the benefits of social media to the Nigerian and African population. Wuese expressed the mission to promote impactful use of social media handles and announced that the summit had already reached out to ten thousand participants across the country.

Wuese emphasized the importance of steering youth away from social vices by harnessing the numerous opportunities available through social media. He highlighted that the program specifically targeted vulnerable youth, and an essay competition was organized to further encourage them, courtesy of Chief Sebastine Hon, SAN, FCIArb., DSSRS, who sponsored the event.

Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives on New Media, Prince Yemi Itodo, commended the active participation of Nigerian youth on social media. However, he advocated for continuous social media summits across the country to educate the youth on positive engagement and legitimate avenues for earnings.

Itodo urged against the misuse of social media for insulting elders or engaging in cyber terrorism, emphasizing the need for responsible usage. He also called on state governments to leverage opportunities provided by the group to organize social media or New Media Summits for their influencers and media aides of public office holders.

The summit saw the presence of Mbolo, representatives of former Governors Shehu Shema and Samuel Ortom, Chief Hon (SAN), Keynote Speaker and Zonal Director of NTA, Makurdi Network Center, Mr. Pam Dung Nyam, Prince Itodo, Dr. Jimmy Ajim, and notable figures from Nollywood, including Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo and Monalisa Chinda.
