As costs for ingredients and operations soar in the middle of Nigeria’s economic disorder, the popular quick-service restaurant ‘Scoops’ is taking an innovative approach to satisfy diverse customer tastes without compromising quality or affordability. The rapidly expanding chain is introducing its new “Scoops Deluxe” premium menu starting with an ultra-premium shawarma offering in its Makurdi location.
After successfully launching its first outlet in Abuja over 2 years ago, Scoops recently opened its second location in the heart of Makurdi city center. The new restaurant has brought exciting innovations like online ordering, menu customization abilities, and on-demand delivery to Benue’s capital. There are even rumors of an additional Scoops outlet planned elsewhere in the state, though the company declines to comment on potential expansion prospects.
Despite the country’s economic disorder and skyrocketing inflation impacting the costs of core ingredients and supplies, Scoops has made a collective effort to maintain its existing pricing structure for cost-conscious customers. However, this has significantly strained profit margins and made business operations even more challenging.
“The crazy increases we’ve seen for gas, cooking oil, rice, shawarma sausages, and every other basics have made it extremely difficult to maintain our pricing without taking losses,” admits Scoops Makurdi manager Rita Okoli. “But we’ve been adamant about not passing those higher costs to our everyday customers who rely on us for affordable dining options.”
To offset increasing expenses without compromising its price integrity, Scoops is experimenting with a new premium “Deluxe” option that will introduce larger portion sizes, higher-quality ingredients, and bolder flavor experiences. The Deluxe shawarma will soon enter a trial mode to collect valuable customer feedback before finalizing recipes and rolling out permanently alongside Scoops’ classic menu.
“Our Scoops Deluxe program is really about constantly improving and diversifying our menu to satisfy diverse customer tastes, preferences an purchasing power” Okoli explains. “From bigger, more indulgent portions to more premium ingredients and flavor innovations, Deluxe allows us to explore exciting new menu possibilities for customers looking for an elevated experience.”
“At the same time, we remain committed to our everyday value proposition and protecting the quality, taste experiences, and affordability customers have come to expect from our every day’s classic menu,” she continues. “This two-side approach helps us broaden our reach and appeal without ignoring our primary customer base as we continue navigating rising costs.”
The forward-thinking Deluxe program represents an ambitious new frontier for the blossoming Scoops brand and its rapid expansion efforts. With stated goals of growing to over 200 locations nationwide by 2030, the innovative restaurant concept is focused on delighting guests through exceptional service, convenient delivery, customizable options, diverse offerings, and a steadfast commitment to quality at multiple pricing levels.
